Hi,

It bolts to the bracket with vertical bolt through the sides (balconies) of the battery. The bolts on the original battery are mounted in rubbers. The clips are mounted in rubbers as well. The clips are only there to keep the lid on the battery. They are not securing the battery to the bracket.

Given that the 1934 250cc Blue Star has a 7" brake and a straight brake arm and the 1933 250 cc Blue Star a 5.5"brake and a curved brake arm I have now come to the conclusion that it is in fact a 1933 2055 Blue Star.

The numberplate is a London series issued June-September 1934.

Bike is a Blue Star. Cant say whether the 250, 350 or 500cc model.
Given the size of the front brake relative to the front wheel I would say a 250.

Like I already said on Facebook, you need a D142 headlamp and a BM ammeter. BM4 is post war but looks exactly the same. On FB you said your Blue Star is 1936 but the rocker box in the picture is for a 1934 or earlier model. What are the engine and frame prefixes? If you Blue Star is 1934 the headlamp would have been MC140 (8").

You can use that piston without any issues. Please note that the standard bore for the B33 is 85mm so you need a +1mm/.040"OS piston if you need 86 MM.

The 1934 parts book would cover that model, but given that the number of changes between 1934 and 1935 are minimal the later book would cover a substantial part of the 1934 B2.

Alan,

Having looked at your gearbox, it seems you have a 1920's gearbox with an early 1930's positive stop mechanism bolted to it. So it's not even a Blue Star gearbox. You need a B model gearbox. I have a fairly complete one which needs some minor repairs (clutch cable attachment is damaged). I am however looking for that positive stop mechanism that you have.

There are pre war service sheets and manuals like Pitman's Book of the BSA and D.W. Munro BSA motorcycles. Furthermore there is a manual by Motorcycling or reprint by BMS called BSA Motorcycles 1935-1940. These can all be found on Ebay. Please note that the Pitman's Book of the BSA comes in many editions. The most common one stretches from 1936into the late 1940's early 1950's. Earlier editions are more limited in scope of models (1st up to and including 9th edition).

Hi Tony,

I may be a language thing (me being Dutch) but what is your aim? A model H2 is a flattanker with a rigid frame. It can house a number of 1920's engines but will need some special engine plates if you want to fit an M20 engine. Although I can't think of a reason to use a frame with lousy brakes with an M20 engine. I have a model H2 of 1922 which is under restoration but I would never consider riding it on the road outside a closed off event. The brakes are so utterly useless but it will do 60mph easily. Up to and including 1922 the model H was fitted with a BSA carburetor. The M20 was fitted with an AMAL 274/014R of 276C/1B.

The pump part was offered as a kit by Amal to be fitted on standard 75, 75, 76 and 89 carburetor. The pump itself only chokes the engine but the bottom part of the pump can be found on jumbles, it is the float bowl which is the most difficult part as it has a bigger hole to accommodate the bottom nut covering the pump. The pump is an elongated needle jet with a spring loaded 4 hole piston in it. It is pushed down by the needle and if you open the throttle quickly it will spray some additional fuel through the needle jet in the mixing chamber. At least that is the theory.

Is your sprocket the one with a circular ridge with 5 slots. if so the WD M20 drum won't fit. But it can be adapted it you machine the slotted ring and weld it on to that drum. The other alternative is to buy a industrial sprocket to of the correct size machine it until only the outer rim remains. Machine the teeth of the worn drum and weld (and pin) the new sprocket ring on to the old drum. If you have this QD hub please note that it is a terrible solution and a lot of play will develop over the years which means that the drum will be knocked about everytime you throttle up or brake opening up the worn slots further. Welding and machining the hub to fit the reamed slots is a horrible job.

I think the head gasket is the same as that of a G14. Lani from Copper Gaskets put some G14 copper head gaskets up on Ebay. I think he made batch but can also make one offs. I bought these and they are excellent. His website is: https://coppergaskets.us/
