Looks like it came out of BSA factory with the bike, well done.

The Star and Garter / New ebay scam.
« on: 18 January, 2018, 15:58:31 »
This guy is now stealing genuine ID's. These have a postal address down the page. It appears to be a normal auction with a few bids. There is no email address in description this time so it all looks good so far. Then he will get a message asking for a Buy it Now price, then the scam begins. The greedy buyer accepts the price and sends the demanded deposit to hold it, good bye money !! The Scammer nearly always has campers, caravans and cars in his other adverts. He also leaves a trade mark that I always spot ( most days of the week ). I will not reveal his trade mark on here. Be careful, no money till you have laid hands on goods.

Thanks Editor. When I picked up the bike in bits I wondered why that engine mounting plate was still in place. Could barely wriggle the engine bolts out. I read up on that as I have a decent manual. I have all new engine mounting bolts exactly the right length.
The metal plate is painted ready to go back on and I have new screws-bolts for that part. The engine came back from the Vapour Blasters yesterday, stunning. The rebuild begins.

Again thanks for your good solid advice. Colin

You could always put petrol in your tank to test it. You could use it again in a vehicle if it is filtered, NO smoking.

Thanks Lads. Crofty, the photo really helps, either way it is going to be a Spaghetti jobby.  Was probably a lot easier on a production line. I will fit and test mine before the engine goes in.

Welcome to this good forum. First thing I would do is change engine oil just to give it a good flush. Chances are the oil is old a the owner knew he was going to sell it. Oil is the HEART of your engine. Good choice of bike, you will buy a twin by next year. LOL.

Twins / A65 OIF Wiring
« on: 14 January, 2018, 17:49:25 »
Work is progressing onto the electrics. I fitted the Lucas switches on the handlebars and the looms on these are so long they would almost reach the oil filler cap. Has anyone got a decent photo of one these with the tank off showing the wiring locations. Please bare in mind I bought this bike in bits, so I never took this apart. I read somewhere that the main loom connects behind the fork tube. I have a brand new Lucas main loom which matches all the colour codes ( Thank Christ )  ;D

Hi Lads. I like the sound of the high temperature aerosols and plonk them in the oven when the wife is at work. What setting in an electric oven ? I have used VHT a few times on totally different types of projects. Thanks for replies.

Been a long time since I painted a set of BSA barrels. Is there anything new out there with a nice sheen that wont come off too soon. I have had the barrels in the parts washer bath for a few days in anticipation.

Thanks Crofty. I don't mind people seeing the filter, they will know that I care about my new engine. Regards.

Twins / OIF clean out.
« on: 12 January, 2018, 17:48:06 »
I want to wash out my OIF Thunderbolt oil tank section of the frame during my restoration. I was going to pour a gallon of paraffin into tank and let it soak for a few days before dropping the sump off and flushing with hot soapy water. Any better ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks lads, the new wheels are fitted and it does weigh a fair bit without the engine. I wish the weather would warm up I am itching to get in the garage.

Don't let the chequered history put you off. Go back to basics. Spark- Fuel- Compression. Clean carb, change plugs, check points and condensers . You will get plenty of help here.  ;D
