Hi All, The A65 is now alive and well, many thanks for all the advice from various contributors during what seems to have been a long drawn out process. It now starts easily with it's Boyer ignition and charges with aplomb since the upgrade to a reg/rectifier.

The next thing on the list will need to be a front brake upgrade, has anyone done so on a 1965 full width hub A65? Would a TLS brake plate fit or is that wishful thinking!

Hi All

Advice required about the oils members are using in their unit twins, are you using modern equivalents or do you stick to the originally recommended oil if still available?

Twins / A65 alternator

Hi All

I am in the process of getting my 1965 (with 12v system from new) back on the road. I have fitted it with a Boyer MK1V ignition kit and that works fine. However it seems I have an intermittent problem on the charging side and was considering changing the diode and rectifier for a modern regulator/rectifier. On looking for said replacement it appears that they can be either single or three phase, can anyone advise this "Old Biker" which my current alternator is likely to be? The bike is positive earth.

Twins / 1965 A65 ignition timing

Hi All,
This "Old biker" is in need of some knowledge! Having checked various sites and asked a question of the model specialist I admit to being somewhat confused about which way to go with the timing on the A65. The bike has Boyer electronic ignition and Eric advised that SRM recommended 32 btdc as the best timing for modern fuel but I am/was reluctant to stray from standard although I do appreciate that modern fuel is very different from the fuel I used in 1965.

I am/was in two minds whether to use the A50 timing of 34 btdc using the timing plug the "wrong" way around for the A65 which took the timing nearer to the SRM figure for modern fuel. However, I am also aware that other members with an A65 using electronic ignition use the standard 37 btdc and tune the carb to suit modern fuel along with an appropriate spark plug and have no issues.

Another member, who I owe several drinks for the help in getting the bike up and running, suggested that I put this topic on the forum to see how other members have dealt with this issue. Over to you.

When you converted to Boyer did you use a specific plug cap as seems to be recommended by some, the plug caps on my bike at present are just the rubber waterproof variety with no resistors.

I'm considering swapping out the points for an electronic system on my 1965 A65 Rocket any advice would be welcome even if experience says don't do it!

Being new to the forum I'm not certain of the way this should be approached but here goes.

I recently purchased an A65 which came from Denmark, the paperwork shows it was registered in 1965 but I do not know if it was originally registered in Denmark or whether it just finished up there. I am also uncertain as to the actual model, it was described in the advert as a Star Twin. The engine number is A65B412 and I was wondering if anyone out there could help me pin down the precise model and year. I did look in the owners club library for anything A65 however it appears to skip 1965 just showing 1964 and 1966.
