Hi All
More help for my 1950 B31 please.
In one end of the big end crankpin is a grub screw, what does it do and does it need to come out and be cleaned behind.
On the drive side crank shaft is a ball race, spring ring, distance collar, roller race and oil flinger BSA list a engine shaft shim 66-661. Were does this go there wasn't one on there when I stripped it.
All the best

Hi All
More help needed with my 1950 b31 renovation.
I have split the crank case, the big end seems ok but I intend to change the main bearings. There is a ball race and a lipped roller race on the drive side and a lipped roller race on the timing gear side.
Should I replace the lipped races with the same or use plain ones.
Watís the advantages and disadvantages of using lipped ones.
Why were lipped one fitted in the first place.
What way round should the lip go.

Singles / Re: !950 b31 petrol tank
« on: 16 January, 2018, 21:15:01 »
Hi Guys
Thanks for all the info. My tank has the small oblong BSA badge with wing. Underneath at the front there is a link pipe connecting the two sides of the tank. According to Julianís parts book this link pipe was only fitted on the M series part No 66-8285, my sprung 31 should have tank part No           65-8161.
Does anyone know what the physical difference is between the two tanks. The reason I ask is that the tank needs re chroming and repainting if spend the money on this tank will it look right or should I look for the right tank

« on: 04 January, 2018, 16:57:07 »
Hi Guys
I am rebuilding a 1950 plunger B31, and want to fit a solo saddle. I have brought a wasselll one from Dragonfly (large lycett type) but when you offer it up with the springs on it appears to be the right width but to long (about 14inches) to fit the cutaway in the tank properly. Has anyone got any pictures or measurements of the correct one or has anybody fitted an after market one

Thanks

Hi Julian
Thanks very much your reply and a chance to look at your great parts book. Looking at the parts list for the stand and my casting No 29-48?? it looks like I might have the wrong stand. Do you or, anybody, know what the physical differences are as the picture looks the same.

PS can you buy the parts book you use anywhere as with the pictures and numbers it's easier to see if you have the right parts fitted in the first place. Once again thanks,

Hi Guys
Can anyone give me some technical advice please? I have a 1950 B31 which I am trying to renovate. I brought a rear brake rod complete at the weekend but when I got home and checked it is was longer than the old which is 20 inches overall. Can anyone the correct length please.

Best regards

Hi Guys
Pictures to go with the previous words 3 of the cylinder head and 1 of the cylinder. Julian said the cylinder number denotes a 1953 cylinder (should be 1950),.
Thanks everyone for your help
