Yes. A main reason for hand painting was to get an authentic finish and not some of the modern fancy finishes.
I've looked at Tekaloid but they proudly state the high gloss finish!

Singles / WM20 paint
« on: 05 May, 2017, 08:51:32 »
I am thinking of painting the WM20 myself with out the aid of spray kit. I once painted a complete Beagle by hand in the spare bedroom and nobody ever guessed it was a brush job, so i know what I'm letting myself in for.

So, does anybody know a source for approapriate paints to get an authentic colour finish for WW2 British military green than can be applied by brush and aerosol?

I had similar problems when the selector was misaligned by one notch. Very weird gear selection: sometime fine then I'd lose a gear and find find extra neutrals. Its seemed BSA's idea of red dot alignment and mine were at odds!
Sorry mate the only way to check this is to whip the end cover off the gearbox.

Glad you got it sorted Tony. No problem is small if it's holding up getting your bike sorted.

I'd try only a little heat and then the pipe wrench (gripped lightly!).
If it got really bad you could cut through the top ring. These are availabe new from Amal according to their website, although it's aways best to phine to check they actually have in stock what that show on their site.

Mike
the one I know of is near Chesterfield. If you are seriously interested I'll try and get details and PM you.

The club has a reasonable selection of used spares and has had quite a few parts re-made

They tend to be pretty resilient, as do their owners, judging by this story...

Mike
The BSA Front Wheel Drive Club has info on BSA cars including trikes.

Complete Trikes are fetching a lot of money these days but of you fabcy a serious project I know of a dismantled one that is pretty much complete. It is a four cylinder engine model though.

TTJohn. thanks for your informative and reassuring reply. Off tomorrow to get the barrel bored to fit the STD piston!

Mike. I have seen the pistons you describe, with a ring towards the bottom of the piston, on the original epuip BSA V-twin trike (but I'm running on B33 pistons as they are a damned sight lighter!). So perhaps its a prewar thing.

Singles / How many rings in an M20 piston
« on: 25 April, 2017, 09:35:39 »
I've got a piston but needed rings. I can only find the usual three ring sets yet the piston I have has 4 ring grooves. The top (extra) one is thinner than the other, non oil ring. Having just got a NOS BSA replacement piston this also has 4 grooves but came with rings fiited, but only three. the top groove has no ring. Perhaps the top groove is not a ring groove but serves some other purpose. I've not come across this before so can anybody explain what's going on?

Bevan
for solo work you want
Engine 21
Gearbox 19
Rear wheel 42

Changing the engine sprocket may be the eaiest/cheapest option. M20 and A10 4 lobe engine sprockets fit the Sloper and are easily available.

Its ironioc that you need to gear up just as I am trying to gear down!
