The Star and Garter / Just got back...
« on: 12 June, 2017, 22:42:23 »
Congrats to Norfolk Branch for a wonderful camp weekend.
Lovely site, great rideout via ferry and glorious Norfolk countryside to a very interesting transport museum.
Great BBQ and some interesting prizes among the many won by the rafflers. They even arranged some glorious weather
Well done to Rob and helpers for making this such a success.
Thank you!

No pinging and engine not done many miles since last strip down.
I've just got a new spark plug so I'll try that and report back.

Thanks for your help guys. I ordered some olive drab from paragon and have just done the frame. I am pleased with the finish: I'd describe irt as: " slapped on by a disgrunted squaddie given the job as punishment duty"  ;D

Can you remind me, is it bicarb that you use in the solution?
I did the interior using a folded coathanger as the cathode. Managed to remove rust with no risk of damage to new chrome and paint,

Twins / Re: Indian tanks
« on: 05 June, 2017, 20:59:21 »
I'm very pleased with the Indian tank I bought for my A10. I had to buy taps and badges separately but 250 got me a fully chromed and painted tank complete with filler cap delivered to my door. Fitted excactly as it should and no leaks.

Bantam / Er, er she's started hesitating.
« on: 03 June, 2017, 17:27:28 »
My Bantam (D14 engine) has recentky developed a hesitation at wider throttle openings. I suspected I'd messed the petroil mix but I've drained the tanks and replenished with fresh 25:1 fuel. Draining via the tap meant I could check fuel flow and its fine. Have stripped and cleaned the carb, which was clean when I looked inside. So, the hesitation is not likely to be fuel/carb related.
I have made no changes prior to the developement of the hesitation issue cropping up.
I'll check the plug and points tomorrow but in the meantime has anyone any ideas?

Twins / Re: A7ST Tank leaks - weld or liner repair kit?
« on: 02 June, 2017, 20:05:35 »
I'd definately go for a liner kit. I've had very good results with them and done properly they give your tank internal corrosion protection: a real problem with modern fuels. I spent a fortune having my Super Rocket tank re-chromed and painted only to come to it after a winter layup to find the inside coated witrh rust. Fortunately  DIY reverse electrolysis got rid of the rust.

It does not help that the road tax reminder states 'This machine requires an MOT' even of it doesn't!

I am not so sure about the sprung seat post but I would suggest trying a change in riding posture, Try a different seat height and handle bar angle/height.

... from a really enjoyable Open Day weekend. I met up with old friends met some new and can now put faces to some 'virtual' mates from here.
Its been some year since I've done an Open Day (Field Day) so my first at this venue but I think it works well with a nice camping and great facilities.
Lizzy is thrilled with her rosette and it's going in her treasures cabinet.
A big thanks to all those who put in the graft in advance and during the weekend to make this so successful.

PS I never did find the float needle but that will teach me to impulsively decide to strip the carb in a grass feild!

Do you mean the fastenings at the the front underside that attach the anti-vibration plate. If so, you could try cutting and drilling the stud and epoxying a replacement stud in there. If its doesn't work then not much lost.

You can imagine how irriatating it is that my Siper Rocket is March 1960..GRRRRR
On the up side, as my MOT examiner commented when noting the mileage since the last MOT, it does mean I ride it at least once a year :-[

Just found out I can make the Open Day weekend. I haven't booked so can I just turn up?
Planning to come for the weekend in campervan.

Spoke to Kim and the answer is yes :)
