I have recently done a TLS conversion. It took a lot of time and money and is nearly as good a the brake it replaced :(

Many thanks for your reply.
I may have to follow that route even though I spent on new 6v kit.

6V electronic ignitions are readily available.

Have you thought of electronic ignition? Less than 100 for a Boyer for the C15 and once set up you can forget about it. No need for mechanical advance, points etc.

I went on a British Two Stroke Club run yesterday and was tlking to a chap there about the synthetic 2T oil issue. He said that the Ariel club  had done some work on this and found greaer engine wear on synthetic than traditional mineral oil. Ihave not got round to  confirming this yet so treat it as just hearsay if you like.

I have had 2. The first was on long term loan in the seventies (1970s btw!) as a daily ride and communting from Brighton to Guildford to visit my partner at college. Great bike and no problems. It just lived outside and started and went when I needed it to.

About 15 years ago I got one in bits and rebuilt it. Easy build with reasonably priced parts. Went great when built and I then lent it to a (large) mate who commuted daily from Nottingham to Loughborough for several months with no problems. I only sold it to make space when another project came along and I had enough other bikes to ride.

Pokey enough without being a great big lump to manhandle around the garage.

In your position I'd go for one again.

Good luck Tim
I know how frustrating all this can be but one day soon you'll be wizzing  along on her with a group of mates and this will all be a faint memory.
cheers Dean

Twins / Re: BTH magneto fitted to my A10

I fitted a BTH to my Super Rocket about 15 years ago having got fed up with dodgy mag rebuilds.
It transformed the bike, both starting and running, and has been faultless.

20:1 is normal although manulal says  16:1 for some oils (oils have got better).

If you have not got a manula you can dowload one for free from here:  https://www.carlsalter.com/download.asp?p=416

Service sheets are also available foc if you search the web.

Thanks Dean
Not sure if the procedure is the same for points on the side engine, which I have.
I may have misled you you by referring to the distributor.
However service sheets very useful, thanks.

I thought both were covered in the sheets.

Singles / Re: Fuel tap problem
« on: 05 August, 2017, 08:09:19 »
You could replace the tap with a Bap tap. They are leak free and easy to use and don't look too out of place

I have recently been using Shell VSX Synthetic. I have also recently been having problems with poor running when cold, progressiveky getting worse and only fixed by fitting a new spark plug each time. I cvannot be sure that its the new opil but that is the only think I have changed recently. I am going to try a hotter plug.

Sorry this does not diectly answer your question Griffo but hopefully others can chip in and at least we can rule out some unsuitable oils
