No, I'm afraid its already hand operated Julian.

If I ever get round to fitting the sidecar I have a left foot pedal to operate the sidecar brake. Its a new repro pedal off ebay but you'd never guess, beautifully cast steel and all the fitting and a spot-on BSA piles arms stamped on it.

I have to reverse my Sloper out of the garage down a steep drive but this has became a real challenge as my front brake does not work at all in reverse! I can end up in a real pickle if the engine stalls as sometimes I need tp manoevre back and forth around cars parked on the drive. I have yet to develope the skill of kick starting the  bike whil holding it on the brake with the other foot!

Any suggestions on how to fix the front barke so it won't roll backwards ould be gratefully recieved.

I find it stimulating to have topics like this to debate. Garage work is as integral to the pleasure we get form our bikes as is the riding and its fun to explore ways of modifying and improving them. The great joy of our machnes is that BSA left us with loads scope for this!

Sometimes, if asked why we do it we set aboit some of our projects we c an only reply that we just fancy the challenge : look at the work they guy did to get an A65 head to fit an A10 - phenomenal.

But I  feel that sometimes people can hear of possible upgrades and assume these indacte a flaw with the original design more serious than it really is.

Last summer I was at a country show where a chap had trailered his just beautifully restored Beagle. Having rstored one myself some  time ago I went over to have a chat with him to learn that he hadn't felt confident to start the engine yet. So, as it was all set ready to be started, I offered to give him a hand. No amount of persuasion would get him to start it because , as he explained, he was worried the rockers would get damaged due to oil supply problems he had heard about!

I bet you'd have a problem using it daily but I'd put money them surviving the type of use we put them to.

I'm too deep into replacing my 8"  single sided with the TLS now so I am developing seletive deafness/wordblindess  to posts on this thread;)

I must say though that i have to agree the single sided isn't a bad brake. But, hey, this hobby is about trying stuff put and experiementing.

At least I can console myself and bank account knowing that if its not any better then I can use it on the Super Rocket.

Oil mist rocker lubrication was pretty standard on pre war machines. Both my Sloper and Trike run quite happily with mist lubrication via the push rod tubes. However, both of these have open rocker boxes so do not develop positive pressure. Perhaps positive pressure in the rocker boxes can offer a resistance to the oil mist.  Indeed my pal suspected this was a problem with poor oiling opf the rockers on his New Imperial, which were sealed. He fitted a breather to the rocker box and this did improve matters.

Perhaps as an experiment you could run the engine without the rocker covers or with washers between the studs and the rockers to allow breathing and see if it appears the box is getting wetter.

I was really cheered last week when I out out a call for help with this year's International.

Last year my wife and I went to Italy, our first International but because she cannot ride pillion anymore my wife could not fully enjoy it.

So this year we are going going to take the Trike or, if I get it finished and run in, the Sloper outfit.

But we also want to make the most of the travel costs and stay over after the rally and tour Holland in our campervan. So I contacted the organisers in Holland (who I do not know)  to see if they could help me find somewhere to store the trailer and BSA for two weeks while we tour.

Two days later I received an email from a Dutch member who lives just 30 km from the rally site offering storage for as long as I need it.

I don't know any of the Dutch people so to get this offer so promptly was fantastic and really kind. I think the Rally is going to be good!

Anyone else going?

Yesterday, after temporarily replacing the later fork legs and the TLS hub wheel and plate I was able finally to measure, re-measure and triple check the amount I'd need the rim offset adjusting by. Turned out to be 5mm which would bring the rim in line with the open face of the brake drum. I made careful notes and armed with these I drove the wheel over to Central Wheel Components.

As I went in they asked what I wanted and I firstexplained that I was modifying my A10 to TLS with this wheel.

"So you'll need the wheel building with the rim in line with the  open face of the drum then" he replied !! :)

That inspired confidence in them and my measurements, taken while on high dose steriods  :-[

I never used mine enough for this to become an issue.

How about a drip feed tapped into the rocker covers fed by a small remote tank under the petrol tank.  They only need  a small amount of oil so it should hardly overfill the sump,
Is there a champhered oil hole on the top of the rocker arms or am I mis-remembering?

Interesting, but I hope it goes for loads of dosh so I don't feel  so bad about what I've paid so far just for the parts for my conversion
