Many thanks for that Julian. So prompts the metaphorical ink was still wet on my post!

I'll get onto it next weekend as Mrs and I off to Pembrokeshire for a few where are those waterproofs!

Twins / Adjusting a TLS brake
« on: 19 March, 2017, 11:45:06 »
I am now ready to assemble the TLS on my A10. The machining and welding is done so lets hope it all lines up!

For now though I need to know how to adjust the brake arms to be sure its operating as a TLS and get optimal performance.
Intuitively I am assuming that with the rod that links both brake arms disconnected I operate both brake arms fully manually untill then and with my third and fourth hands adjust the linking rod.

Does anyone know of a better approach or the BSA recommended method?

The VMCC does them. You can order by phone.

I know at least a couple of guys in the club have done BSA trike conversions. Hopefully they will post on here.

I can thoroughly recommend a BSA Trike.
It has the added advantage of giving you greater confidence in bad weather...e.g. :)

I was getting my Sloper out of hibernation today and had to refer to the Owner's Handbook. This describes how to remnove the fork spring (and virtually how to rebuild the bike...a sign of how things were then!).
Do you have a copy of the owner's manual? If not I may be able to send or emial you a grubby copy of mine.

That's great Julian. I can see the raised edge of the steel plate is on the outer side. Many thanks.

No excuse these days for not taking photos as most phones have camera. It's just a case of remembering!

Or even Halfords. I asked for 5/16" oil pipe. Sorry, we only do metric he said. OK, how about 8mm oil pipe says I. And so the assistant produced it - and it has marked all along its length it 5/16" oil pipe.

Try asking them for Plus Gas  all I got was "What's that?"

"I would suggest getting a Brightsparks condenser fitted while you are at it."

I'd second that, provided it fits, they are excellent.

On my Panther magneto it fits inside the points housing, meaning that if it fails, you don't have to take the magneto apart, or even off to replace it.  I can't see how one would fit inside my BSA Sloper magneto points, there is scarcely enough room for the points mechanism.

Fitted in my mag no problem.

Never asume you will remember how parts went together months down the line when it comes to reassembly.
Photos are really helpful but video can be even better especially as you can make verbal notes.

PS does anyone know which way round the steel brake shoe plates should inserted in a TLS brake plate  :-[ :-[

I would sugget getting a Brightsparks condenser fitted while you are at it.

I would recommend giving Rusell at Chronometrics a call. Decent guy.

Funnily enough that was exactly what I was doing this morning!
Got the mop attached to the electric grinder and it came up better than it will ever look again while I own it.
