You really need that armature rewound for 12 volts. And why not a 12 Volt field coil while you are at it? The E3L weak point in these circumstances is the soft soldered commutator. A decent 12 v armature should have silver soldered commutator connections.

Much depends on how you did your 12v conversion. If you take a standard 6v E3L and use a 12v regulator it will work but in my experience with prolonged night riding the commutator soldering can fail, as happened on the A10 more than once. The A10 has reverted to 6v and is actually pretty good at night. The 12v conversion on my Star Twin uses a 12v field coil and armature and has been completely trouble-free.  All my bikes now have LED stop/tail bulbs but I have stuck to BPF headlight bulbs. Even my Velocette with its somewhat poxy 6V 40W Miller dynamo is fine at night with as 30/24 BPF headlight and a LED tail light.

I got a bit carried away when I built a new shed. It's essentially a pole barn, concrete floor, metal clad sides and roof, a wood lining and the walls have 2" polystyrene insulation. Condensation isn't a problem, though I do have a rarely-used dehumidifier in there too. The problem is it's already too small..

Take a look at your primary belt drive and clutch. Clutches do like to have some oil around, one reason I am sticking to the original primary chain setup. If not a clutch bearing, possibly misalignment of the pulleys.

Dished pistons were no longer available back in the 1960s. It's hard to imagine there are still any Flashes that still have them. Flat top 7.5:1 are absolutely fine.

Granny and eggs comes to mind but are you absolutely sure you have set the timing at TDC on compression? We have all been there...

Very true. Classic oils have higher levels of ZDDP than synthetic oils. Synthetics are excellent but are slightly compromised by having to avoid contaminating catalytic converters in exhausts.
Multigrades are fine, just don't prolong the oil change interval over much. In fact, the same advice applies to monogrades.
If you intend using synthetic oils, make sure your bike is well run in first.
There are strong opinions out there. As an old lifelong motorcyclist once said, if you were stuck, you would be happy to use melted butter.

Castrol XL is still available. I have 20 litres in my shed. Have a look at Morris lubricants website. They have oils for every possible use. My rule of thumb is straight 40 for roller big ends, 20-50 for plain big ends. Many people use multigrade for everything with no problems. It's a big subject with many strong opinions. Essentially, if you use a reputable oil and change it regularly you won't have any problems.

We all have tales of regret. The DBD34 I turned down for 80? The Vincent I turned down for 120? The Ariel VB 600 I turned down for 6. Even the Ariel 500 Red Hunter I sold for 80.
The good news is we still have the A10 (45) and A7 (also 45) so can't really complain. Now why did I pay 5250 for a Velocette?

The timing cover rev counter drive catches your ankle. Given a few years, you almost get used to it. That may explain why it was changed to an oil pump drive.

Smith's hasn't made an 8 day clock for many years. I found mine at an autojumble - possibly your best hope.

I suspect the nearest you will get is the Smith's 8 day chronometric clock. A fine match for the chronometric speedometer and handy for these longer rides...

The stamp these days means nothing - the carb will most probably have been rebuilt several times using any serviceable body. How it works is the important bit.
