I managed my A65 on my own and the washer even managed to stay in place whilst I put the outer cover on, I used a tie wrap to help the spring stay together but it really isn't a straightforward job.

Its difficult to see how the Japanese managed to take over actually!  :'(

The system relies upon the information that was registered in 1984 approx, any registration not on the system after that time is disregarded and seen as not known!

I recently purchased a Tribsa that had been liberated from its barn dwelling after some 30 odd years and has a 3 letter 3 number registration after enquiring at DVLA for the v5 its not on the system, no surprise there!

I will have to get it roadworthy, mot (on frame number) and insure then get dating certificate and apply for registration and may be able to keep the original now non transferable number.  :P

Happy days!

I would be glad to help if you are anywhere near Glasgow  ;)

If not I am sure somebody on here could help you out, I think the more people trying to keep the old bikes on the road the better.

The Star and Garter / Re: Ebay scammer delves into pre-war BSAs
« on: 08 September, 2017, 21:30:39 »
There was a TV documentary on last week about ebay scammers with a similar approach, a lot of people lost money on vans etc that failed to materialise. I don't know how that works with paypal though, I always thought that was pretty safe.

I bought a magneto from Ebay this week and seller was telling me that he had been offered payment through paypal way above what he was asking for it, the "buyer" then asked if he could refund almost half the value through a moneygram payment he smelt a rat and declined.

And yet and yet... My BSAs have had excellent service and continue to do so from their K2Fs. Both were rebuilt over 30 years ago and are going strong. I'm off for a 300+ mile trip on the A10 tomorrow with a ferry to catch. Wouldn't do that if I didn't have confidence in the magneto - or the rest of the bike.

oh dear hope you haven't tempted fate there!

I have always had modern electrics fitted on any British bike I have owned, B44, C15 and now A65. I am hoping to start on the A10 soon but suspect the magneto needs rebuilt and going by the posts on here why not opt for reliable sparking!

just my opinion.

Raymond, it was first time for me also, and I was expecting more bikes and jumble!

Managed to buy a set of hard chrome stantions for the A65, wasn't a lot of other stuff to buy.

I will see you at Lanark Market next year!

They wanted a customs certificate from me for a tractor that was imported in 1943 as part of the wartime lend/lease program. Crying didn't help one bit.

Mike

that made me laugh Mike!
