Bantam / Re: 2T oil

I was advised to avoid the synthetic based oils unless the engine was re-built with synhtetic based products. Just bouhgt some castrol mineral based , yes from tinternet as far cheaper... You pays you're money and takes the chance..   ::)  Griff

Thanks Julian for that.. Suspected that the problem was in the breather area. Will strip it later and see what the part looks like.. Hopefully just gunge and muck keeping it open.      ::)   Griff

Bantam / 2T oil
« on: 30 July, 2017, 21:42:48 »
Any recomendations for oil to use in my Bantam petroil mix ?  All supplies I brought back from France exhausted. I used Elf 2T oil before. Think it was mineral based..... Griff

Twins / B31 timing cover
« on: 30 July, 2017, 20:41:23 »
On my B31 I have a constant oil leak from the timing cover. Where the breather pipe leaves the cover is where the oil is coming from. Is this a breather valve or just a breather pipe?  Can't say I know too much about this type of engine...'L' plates on this job.... :-\  Griff

Bantam / Four stroking !
« on: 16 June, 2017, 08:29:46 »
D10 engine in my D7 has started four stroking at low revs. Any thing below 40 mph in top she chugs along. Higher speeds OK. From about thirty she pulls like a dream and with open throttle runs as she should. Slow down and try to do 30 she four strokes again. Fuel problems or carb seting , maybe timing ?   Griff

Sorted the electrics and gone down the Electrex World route. Better startng though the direct lighting is not the best in the world it works good enough for my dim eyes to see where I am going, Though not a lot of night riding is done now-a-days... Griff

Some insurance companies insist you have an M-o-T on an old bike. Though I have no doubt many steer clear of them. However for a speedier re-registration, or original reg. it is easier to get an M-o-T. Even if it is only a 'daylight running only' one. Just means you have time to get lights working as they should. No plod can't do you for riding after dark if you have proper legal lighting fitted and working. Once got pulled over riding a trials bike at night using a push bike rear and front lights and a reflector on the back mudguard. Got a rollicking but as the lamps gave the minimum illumination permitted I was allowed to continue home. .... 8)  Griff

Yes I also returned to the UK. from previous time here. Another story ! ! !  Bikes pre 1960 do not need M-o-T or tax. Think it's 1972 for cut-off for free tax. The SORN is automatically removed when you re tax the bike. If you've brought the bike back to the UK you need to re-register it. Tax discs have been done away with for all vehicles as the DVLA use the modern idea of computers to check vehicles. Plod can trace the vehicle and slip you a ticket easier.
Have fun on the B31... great bikes and full of character..   :D  Griff
