The Star and Garter / Re: B31

Julian, the 'rivet counter' has been informed that he was out of order. He sudddenly remembered that the Earls Court Show was when the new models were introduced. Yes the same year as the first moped, Hercules Grey Wolf at a cost of just under 62. Just think how much one of those would fetch now ?
Sad to say the conter of rivets would not back off as he was convinced that BSA waited 'till 56 for the change of front brakes  but he conceeded the odd one could have crept through,in late 55. Suppose we had a minor win there but wait 'till tomorrow night when we get him at a "club night"... There are half a dozen waiting for him. Thanks for the conformation and EB31 will be there hail ,rain or shine... I like to stir a bit...  ;D   Griff

Been having a debate about front brakes. At a show a 'rivet counter'  reconed my B31 could nor have in been registered late December '55 as it had the Ariel front hub and he recons they were only available from 1956. Surely the bikes were made in 55 for Jan.56 registration and a few were released before Jan 1st. Anybody got an opinion ?   :-\   Griff

Silly question, can you change the hump seat cover for a flat one on an A65 1965 model , or is it easier to change the seat ?  Any body for a swap ?...Griff

The Star and Garter / Steve Foden contact ?
« on: 15 September, 2017, 08:19:30 »
Just sent a form off for dating purposes and realised that I had not enclosed the cheque. (Must be an age thing)  So if Steve looks at this page, or somebody who regularly contacts him, 'the cheque is in the post' , a day later than the other paper work.  Thanks..   :o Griff

Singles / Re: To polish, or not to polish - that is the question

My original 1961 C15T had a part painted tank (Blue and chrome) with chrome mudguards. After running it in I was dubious at taking in on a trial but after the first couple of tumbles in the rocks the newness soon wore off. Grand little bike though a tad on the heavy side..... :-[   Griff

Got windows 10 but the only paint bit I can see is the hall which I did to-day. Sad to say I'm one of the many three score and ten plus that struggle with modern technology... Sorry ...  Griff

Singles / B31 Front wheel
« on: 07 August, 2017, 17:10:17 »
Looking at the front wheel on my B31 it has a 21" rim and tyre . The brakes are not good to say the least. Seems to be the right back plate but the new shoes only touch lightly in their centres. Looking at the wheel and the drum in marked , inside as GP 5554  with the letters HC  higher inside . Is this the correct wheel for the bike and if not what is the wheel I have ?  Some body suggested it was off a scrambler as the hub outer rim goes outside and the rim flange , with a futher rim on the inside. i.e. the brake plate rim goes in a chanel... If you can understand that jibberish you deserve a pint...    :o   Griff

Bantam / Re: 2T oil
« on: 04 August, 2017, 22:14:07 »
I was advised to avoid the synthetic based oils unless the engine was re-built with synhtetic based products. Just bouhgt some castrol mineral based , yes from tinternet as far cheaper... You pays you're money and takes the chance..   ::)  Griff

Twins / Re: B31 timing cover
« on: 31 July, 2017, 18:11:06 »
Thanks Julian for that.. Suspected that the problem was in the breather area. Will strip it later and see what the part looks like.. Hopefully just gunge and muck keeping it open.      ::)   Griff

Bantam / 2T oil
« on: 30 July, 2017, 21:42:48 »
Any recomendations for oil to use in my Bantam petroil mix ?  All supplies I brought back from France exhausted. I used Elf 2T oil before. Think it was mineral based..... Griff

Twins / B31 timing cover
« on: 30 July, 2017, 20:41:23 »
On my B31 I have a constant oil leak from the timing cover. Where the breather pipe leaves the cover is where the oil is coming from. Is this a breather valve or just a breather pipe?  Can't say I know too much about this type of engine...'L' plates on this job.... :-\  Griff
