Many thanks,  looks like good reading and seems to reflect a lot on my bike too. Off for a bit more tinkering I think now
Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. And yes does rattle a bit but being a Brit bike novice unsure if this was normal. I forgot to mention that it has a alloy head I don't know if this makes a difference?

Twins / A10 valve / tappet clearance
« on: 21 November, 2017, 09:25:50 »
Hi,
I have a 1957 A10 golden flash and wondering if someone has any suggestions with regards tappet clearance. I've researched the normal sources set them up to 10 inlet and 16 exhaust starts and runs but I've not been for a run out yet because I know it has high commission pistons and I was told by the previous owner a spitfire high lift cam. My question is would either alter the clearance needed? I've sent myself boggle eyed researching and going round in circles LOL. Any ideas would be great

Thanks for the replies much appreciated. Have another gasket on way. My parts book doesn't show any gaskets at all just the spacer. I'm going on the logic of any metal meeting surfaces must be sealed if oil is involved. I'll also certainly wire the bolts
Thanks again
Mark

Twins / Primary chaincase to crank case assembly
« on: 09 May, 2017, 09:00:09 »
Hi, just assembling my 1957 A10 golden flash primary chaincase to the crank. My question is are there two gaskets which sandwich the steel spacer disc or just one? If so in what assembly order. Looking at well known website states only one for my swing arm version. But I found two old ones in the box of bits that came with the bike.
Thanks
Mark

Thanks  for the replies, and now you mention, when it was in bits the pistons are high compression it also has comp valves so guess someone back in the day was a ton up boy lol. Well I've got some experimenting to do many thanks Markie 😂

Twins / Which spark plugs to use?? A10
« on: 01 April, 2017, 20:10:47 »
Hi all, I was wondering what type of spark plugs to use in my 1957 a10 golden flash. My BSA hand book says  L10s but searching on line suggests N4c champion. But also champion L82C which only has a 12.7 reach whereas the others are 19mm. Is the short reach for iron heads? Mine is a alloy head by the way, any help would be appreciated confused lol. The ones that came in the box of bits with the bike were champion n-3  with 19mm reach ( don't know for sure if these were used in it tho )  cheers Mark :-\
