Twins / Lucas 169SA Handlebar Light Switches 1971-2
« on: 08 December, 2017, 15:53:47 »
Can anyone tell me which switch goes on the right. They both look very similar. They were not fitted to the bike when I bought it. One has five wires, the other six. Thanks.

Does anyone have any credible views on these chaps for a British Twin 1971. Thanks

Twins / 1971 OIF Fork Oil.

Hi. I know which fork oil I am putting in the fork legs, but how much in each leg, thanks.

Twins / A65 OIF Filter
« on: 24 November, 2017, 16:09:59 »
'Frame oil filter fitted under large frame tube'. I intend to flush out the frame tank and then remove the bottom plate to reveal the gauze filter 83-3642. If it is not damaged can I just wash it and replace with new gaskets or should it be replaced, thanks.

The Star and Garter / More ebay fraud.

Some chap has just parted with 2999 to buy a lambretta off ebay from the daily fraudster. He swallowed a story and parted with the cash via a transfer. Some mothers do have them. BSA frauds on there every day of the week, be careful lads.

From another forum:

From a Norfolk Section member.
Eleven machines were taken from a property in Norfolk.
1930 BSA Sloper.
1968 Bantam Sports.
1927 AJS
1926 Coventry Eagle
1952 Bantam.
1946 Ariel Twin Port.
1948 BSA ZB.
1914 New Hudson.
1933 Francis Barnett Lapwing
1929 Ariel 250 LH
1952 Ariel VHA.
A 4 wheel car trailer (chained to a concrete yard) was also taken. The robbery was quite sophisticated. An electric chainsaw was used to cut a hedge back to get a vehicle on the site.
If you hear anything at all about machines answering these descriptions, please inform the police.

These headlights are fixed by wire mounts, either side of the wire are two large washers, the outer being chrome with two tags. Can I find new ones, no. Dragonfly don't even list the part number. This style is common to A65 and 70's Triumphs. Help please. Couldn't see any on ebay. Thanks.

Twins / Lucas 169SA Handlebar Light Switches

Part of my OIF A65 restoration is the wiring. I have a new Lucas main loom ready to go on, but the handlebar switch outer cables looked very drab and dirty. I bought some black Heat Shrink which slipped over all the cables with some persuasion. I put the whole thing in front of a fan heater and now have a smart looking switch harness ready to go on. Thought I would share this as the forum is quiet.

Twins / A65 OIF engine rebuild.
« on: 07 November, 2017, 16:40:15 »
A guy I know is willing to pull my basket case engine to bits for a clean and inspection. Unlike me, he has all the correct tools and is very competent. Obviously I will be paying for all the required spare parts, gaskets etc. He will be charging by the hour and I trust him on that. My question is how many hours should the tear down and rebuild take on average. I appreciate that there could be complications which we will review, just an average please. Thanks.

PS Forgot to mention, the head and barrels are off and I will be refitting them.

Twins / Oil pipes on OIF 650 1971-72
« on: 23 October, 2017, 18:03:33 »
What internal size are the rubber oil and breather pipes. I assume they are all the same size. I intend to buy direct from a pipe supplier instead of buying by part numbers, thanks.

The Star and Garter / Shooting Star
« on: 15 October, 2017, 15:05:15 »
About ten years ago I became aware of a nice shooting star in one of my neighbours garages. There are enough spares including a rebuilt engine and gearbox to build a second bike. He died a couple of years ago and his wife is now considering selling as a job lot. I may be the point of contact one day in the future when this lot is advertised. I have sold quite a few bikes on ebay and other sites, but this is quite a big parcel. What would be the best way to dispose of this lot. It is in Essex.

The Star and Garter / How to resize photos for forum posting.
« on: 12 October, 2017, 15:34:31 »
I have inserted my memory card in my windows computer and downloaded the pictures. My pictures are too big to post. Someone suggested Paint Shop which I have found 'Open with Paint Shop' which I did, went to resize. It offers Pixels or other, tried both still no joy. What am I doing wrong please.

Twins / 1971-72 Thunderbolt Petrol Tank Identification.
« on: 09 October, 2017, 17:13:14 »
The tank that came with my one owner A65 seems to be the correct fit but cannot find an identical one anywhere. It looks like a T140V tank but mine has a single seem on top from front to back and an offset petrol cap ( Similar to Mark 1  Rocket 3 ) , the T140 has no top seem. A chrome trim runs from front to back but the tank has no holes for any tank badges or knee pads. I have taken it back to bare metal and there is no threads for any other fixings. Does this seem like a US model or what have I got here. It came out of the factory 'green'. There is no colour mentioned on the V5. Thanks.

Twins / A65 OIF Front brake.

Trying to locate a rubber gaiter or spring that goes between the two brake arms on the front brake. Unable to locate or find the part number so far. Thanks.

Twins / Stand Springs Woe.
« on: 14 September, 2017, 15:06:32 »
My newly painted frame is ready to come together with the newly painted side and centre stand. I have two brand new springs as well. Not looking forward to fitting these, there must be a wealth of experience out there and any tips would be greatly appreciated. The engine is not in so I can lay it down on a nice off cut of carpet. Help please.
