Singles / WD B40 Ignition Switch Label
« on: 10 April, 2017, 16:09:02 »
This is the plastic Label (for want of a better word) that goes under the Ignition Switch Knob on a WD B40.

Does anyone know the part number or if it was used on any other BSA model please?

The Star and Garter / Unfortunate Error?
« on: 31 March, 2017, 20:56:48 »
Admin take note

Unless I'm missing something...

Is the inclusion of the word 'Child' in the 'For Sale/Wanted' section heading an unfortunate error?

The Star and Garter / "The Star' July 2015
« on: 25 March, 2017, 15:12:04 »
Does anyone have a spare copy of 'The Star', July 2015 I think.  Apparently there is an article in it about the RAF WD B40s I wrote, but was not aware that it had been published?

I would really welcome a copy if there is one still available...   :)

The front cover is this one:

Singles / B Group/WDB40
« on: 22 March, 2017, 21:29:02 »
I am in the process of rebuilding the forks of my WD B40 and noticed that the fork damper tube socket screws had a sort of seal running length ways down a slot in threads.  I then came across a Service Sheet (thanks Julian) stating:

"To prevent oil leaks, fork damper tube socket screw No. 41-5138 is replaced by screw No. 97-2688.  The new part has a 'NyLoc' strip insert along the thread to prevent oil leaks".

Having searched for p/n 97-2688 on the Interweb I can't find anyone in the UK who lists this part, though one or two places list the older/original screw.  Does anyone know where they might get a couple of these later/modified screws?

Singles / WD B40 Fuse
« on: 10 March, 2017, 09:04:31 »
Not being very clued up on electrics, I am trying to find out what fuse I should use on my WD B40, it has a Boyer electronic ignition and, being ex-RAF, is fitted with indicators.

A new wiring harness I bought has a 35 amp glass fuse (the amp rate is printed on blue paper inside the glass tube) however, I have read somewhere that a modern glass tube fuses of 35 amp 'blow' fuse is equivalent to a 17 amp 'continuous' fuse.

Can someone please explain all this please and recommend which fuse I should fit.   ???

Anyone here own this motorcycle, BSA Thunderbolt OCY 681 F ?

I owned this ex-South Wales Police bike in the early 1970s and have a few photos of it from that time if the current owner is interested.

Singles / Fork Stanchion Bottom Nut
« on: 06 March, 2017, 18:43:49 »
Hi

Does anyone know what size the Fork Stanchion Bottom Plug is please, the part number is 41-5130.  I want to purchase a socket to fit it but it seems an odd shape/size.

Singles / WD B40 Forks
« on: 01 March, 2017, 14:42:50 »
On dismantling my WD B40 forks I discovered an 'O' ring fitted on the following part on one fork leg described in the parts book as "Packing Piece, Top Bearing" part number 68-5134.

On checking the other fork leg there was no 'O' ring fitted to the same part?  The parts book doesn't show an 'O' ring?

My question is, should there be an 'O' ring fitted here or not?

If there should be one, does anyone know what the part number is for it?

P.S. - Yes I know I need new stanchions  :'(

Singles / WD B40 Fork Seal Holders
« on: 26 February, 2017, 18:06:40 »
Hi

Trying to remove the chrome fork seal holders using a new correct special tool but they will not shift.  Am I looking at applying some heat to them and/or longer bars on the arms of the tool.  Not done this before so any advice please.

Which BSA do you ride? / My ex-RAF WD B40GR
« on: 30 January, 2017, 11:01:06 »
My 1970 ex-RAF WD B40GR as purchased last year with original paintwork and very low mileage.  I'm currently refurbishing it to full RAF Police Escort specification with full Avon fairing, RAF Police equipment and road tyres.  I rode a few of these bikes on patrol when serving in Germany with the RAF Police during the 1970s.

The second photo is from my records and was taken in 1968 at the RAF Police Depot when they first took delivery of their new WD B40s.  I'd like to hear from anyone else who has an ex-RAF WD B40GR.
