Pre War / BSA Model L Parts Question
« on: 08 March, 2024, 21:31:19 »
Just really a general question, but where's a good source for parts for a 1923 Model L?  I'd like to gather a few spares like valves, valve springs, and barrel.

Many thanks,

Glenn

I had a B31 tank done years ago and the result was just OK, nothing special and definitely a few areas that could be approved upon.  I provided a good condition copper plated tank and requested the tank was chromed , painted and lined. The chroming wasn't great, to the extent that the underneath of the tank had to be painted (quite badly) as did the front mounting brackets, which should have been chromed.  I wouldn't use them again.

All the best,

Glenn

I just have to say that's an amazing model, that is truely excellent work. Is the chain a real working chain?

All the best,

Or if it's a KM20 frame the engine number will be stamped lower down the frame at top engine mounting bracket on the front down tube.  The numbers shown don't look genuine BSA.  All the best, Glenn

The Star and Garter / Re: Gearbox grease
« on: 11 February, 2021, 13:58:23 »
Hi Mike, As far as I know this is not recommended on the M20 gearbox as there are oilways from the gears to shafts that cannot be lubricated when grease is used, for example the sleeve gear.  I stripped a M20 gearbox a few years ago that had been filled with grease and there was a lot of heat scorching on the selector forks and selectors, and they were badly worn, so I wouldn't recommend it.  Plus all the bushes were excesively worn.  Just my opinion :) Glenn

Looks good!  The seat should sit in a better position now once the tank is put on.  Great progress - I'm jealous.  Glenn

Admittedly I'm struggling to find photo's but here's one of the back brackets that the springs are mounted to and another from a front brachet.  Both photos are stolen from google:

Looking great!  Just an observation but the seat is missing 2 x brackets at the front where it mounts to the frame and 2 at the back where the springs mount.  Glenn

Sidecars / Re: sidecar heating

The concept is like the heating system on a light aircraft.  It would potentially be a good solution for a sidecar!  All the best, Glenn
