Title: Paint Colour and paint codes for 1949 B31
Post by: Andmaxjar on 13 March, 2017, 08:05:54
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and have just got involved in restoring a 1949 B31 for a friend, I have mostly A7 twins so the BSA singles are not what I am used to.
Anyway the bike has come to me in pieces and I am trying to confirm if this 1949 ridgid is painted in the Light Brunswick green.
Can someone confirm if this is correct and possible a modern paint match.
Thanks in advance for any help

Cheers
Andy

Hello Andy.
I believe they were Brunswick green & Black, also turned out burgundy & black, with part of the tank chrome, I'm sure Julian  & Arthur will be on here shortly to give their verdict. :)

The 1949 catalogue only describes the colour as green and the parts book finish page also does not give a name to the green. Your tank finish would be chrome and green. The rest black.

Probably best to go to a paint specialist (RS bike paint?) unless you have a sample of the original.

Photo from 1949 parts book. Your tank finish /15 on the list.

Hi,
    I found the following:

From 1948, B31 had an option introduced with tank panels and rim centres in Brunswick green lined gold. Only change in 1949 was a chrome plated rear brake rod introduced.

Best wishes...

Extraordinary...just joined forum looking for M33 chrome/green/gold spec!
Anyone have a modern match for "Brunswick Green" if that is indeed what it is?
Additionally, I have found an Indian supplier on eBay who will paint to order...anyone have horror stories or good experience of Indian classic parts, particularly tanks?
