Title: Light bulbs
Post by: ROYC on 23 February, 2017, 11:52:20
Are there any direct replacement LED's for the standard tail/stop bulb and the pilot bulb in the headlight. Also a direct replacement Halogen 12v for the headlight.
I am thinking of going over to 12v useing an electronic control box, DVr2.

Thanks

Look at Paul Goffs website for the bulbs.

Think about changing the speedo bulb for LED also because the originals can be vibration prone and fail.

If you put a halogen bulb in an original or repro British pre focus headlight  unit you will get a brighter light but the beam pattern will not improve.

Thanks Julian, a very impressive site.
I have emailed Paul to ask his advice.
Just waiting to see what he comes up with.

I can recommend the stop/tail LED bulbs. I got mine from classic dynamos. I'm not too keen on the light from instrument LEDs. Not the warm glow that you get from conventional bulbs. One small advantage of incandescent bulbs in your precious chronometric instruments is that they do help keep them warm and dry. No bad thing for those of us who ride our bikes in the rain. The LED headlight bulbs are useless after dark. The beam pattern is dismal. Quite good daytime running lights though.

In  my opinion I have tried positive  LED headlight bulbs from Dynamo regulator conversions, and consider them to be the best available, the pattern is okay and are much brighter, the ones from PG are not so good.
My tail light unit came from Beck Electronics in Holland, this is not a bulb but a plate which after taking out the bulb socket wire went straight into the hole but I'm not sure if he is still doing them now.

Hope I have done the right thing.
Ordered from Paul Goff:-
Assuming positive earth.
Tail / stop. Pt.no. LO12ST  12.95
pilot light. Pt.no. LDBA9DWP 12v  4.00
Speedo. Pt.no LDBA9SWP 12V  4.00
12W 45/40W Quartz Halogen.

DVR2 Regulator

DO I ALSO NEED TO CHANGE TO A 12V BATTERY ?
If so, can you recommend one that will fit ?

Yes you need a 12 volt battery.

I use a YTX7L-BS in my 1962 A10. Fits well with the wire clip type battery fixing. Lots of different makes - Yuasa, Lucas etc

It is a sealed battery after the electrolyte has been added  so no vent or acid spillage.
