Title: B40 kickstart
Post by: MelC on 19 November, 2017, 10:45:31
As a newby to the B40 fold any help would be greatly appreciated, my problem is that the kickstart keeps coming loose as I kick it ! Tapping the cotter pin down and doing the nut up doesn't seem to help as the cotter becomes progessivly more mangled, the kickstart does seem a bit loose on the shaft though and i'm wondering if this is the cause. On these early models the shaft is 5/8" and trying to find a new kickstart is proving difficult as most are 3/4". Any help will be appreciated.

Probable cause is poor quality cotter - they should be hard enough not to get mangled.

You should be able to find a good quality item if you make some calls to established dealers.

The cotter on my A10 is similar and has been fitted for years no problems not got mangled.

Some sellers are offering soft poor quality cotters more suitable for push bikes.

I had the same problem with my C15.  Solved it with a cotter pin with a smaller flat on it, got it from a company called Trial Bits.
