The Branch History
The BBN Group was originally set up in cold wet winters evening in 1999. The meeting was the result of a letter that I asked the OC to circulate to the National members living in the MK and NN postcode areas. I had been told that there were 78 letters sent out. In the area there had been a branch near Milton Keynes called the Ouse Valley branch, but this has fairly much ceased to exist and having identified our current HQ as a pro bike pub I thought it better to try and set up a new group from scratch. 12 people attended that first meeting and 3 of us are still regular attendees. The Group became a Branch in 2001
Initially we just meet in our pub monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. After about 2 years we started to meet on the last Sunday of the month for a monthly run out. These two traditions has been maintained ever since. We don’t tend to hold camping weekends as the OC Field Day is held locally and we have been involved in assisting with the organisation of this event.
We do not operate a system of branch subs and try and keep the subject of money out of things. The branch does not compensate members for expenses. We do it for the love of the bikes. Anyone is welcome to join us to talk bikes and stuff. Visiting national members are made especially welcome and are encouraged if in the area for work. We have a simple philosophy in that bikes are our leisure enjoyment and so the branch does not take itself too seriously and take related approach to most things.
